Karen is a leader in the Summer and Auxiliary Programs field with more than 30 years of experience working in camps and independent schools. In her current position as Auxiliary Programs Director at Sidwell Friends School, she manages a full time staff of 10 and a seasonal staff of 200+. Her team coordinates the following programs: After School and Enrichment programs for the Lower and Middle School, the Early Childhood Learning Center, the on-campus cafe and school store, rentals, music lessons, Global Programs, and the shuttle service. Annually, she hosts the Summer Summit professional development program in Washington, DC for area colleagues. She presents at a number conferences including the American Camp Association’s National and Tri State Conferences, NBOA, NAIS, and SPARC. She is on the Advisory Board of SPARC. She completed the NAIS Fellowship Program for Aspiring Heads, her MBA at Marymount University, and MEd focusing on School Leadership at Johns Hopkins University. She recently completed American University's Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance and is looking forward to expanding her executive coaching skills.
Karen is still an avid soccer player. Previously she coached youth soccer and basketball teams in Arlington Soccer Association (VA), Stoddert Soccer Association (DC), and Montgomery County (MD).
Before joining the administrative team at Sidwell Friends School, Karen was the Dean of Students at St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, VA, Director of Business Operations for the Explorations Summer Intermediate Program and an Associate at ICF, Inc. She has served on the Boards of Arlington Women's Soccer League, Rosslyn’s Children Center and was the Enrichment Coordinator for Ashlawn Elementary School’s PTA.
