Taunita V. Stephenson, an accomplished leader in athletic administration and human resources, currently serves as the Head of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the University of Pennsylvania. This role uniquely bridges the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics and Wellness at Penn, underscoring her expertise in integrating DEIB within educational and athletic environments.
Previously at The Pingry School, N.J., Stephenson's impact was multifaceted. As People Operations Business Partner, she was instrumental in aligning the employee experience with organizational goals. Prior to her role as People Ops Business Partner, Taunita served as the Assistant Director of DEI Strategic Initiatives. Her work in promoting DEIB as core values aided to a transformative focus to nclusive talent acquisition. Additionally, she contributed to the athletic domain joining the Pingry Community as the Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.
During her tenure in Birmingham, Alabama, as a Director appointed by Mayor Randall L. Woodfin, Stephenson played a key role in managing the Birmingham Crossplex and fostering community engagement, contributing significantly to the city's sports and entertainment tourism.
With a background that spans over seven years in athletics, including positions at Lander University and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, her initiatives ranged from launching a Leadership Academy to pioneering partnerships and influencer strategies, demonstrating her ability to harness resources creatively and effectively. Stephenson, a Delaware State University alumna also holds an MBA and a Master's in Sport Business Management from the University of Central Florida. Currently, she is furthering her education in Penn's Chief Learning Officer Doctor of Education program.
